Las Posadas, which is Spanish for “lodging,” is a tradition celebrated in Mexico, Latin America, Spain, Cuba, Guatemala and some parts of the U.S. between Dec. 16 and 24. Las Posadas commemorates the journey that Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a safe refuge where Mary could give birth to the baby Jesus.
In Abilene, Las Posadas and Fiesta Navideña will be celebrated on Dec. 17 with a pilgrimage downtown organized by Cultura Local ABI starting at 6 p.m. at the corner of North 1st and Cedar streets. This will be a vehicle procession to keep everyone safe during the COVID pandemic. Vehicles will tune into La Voz 93.3 FM to hear traditional posada music. The first 300 vehicles will get posada treats and fiesta navideña bags.
