Join us as we start the new year with our third masterworks concert, Don Juan by the Sea! We present an evening of the finest in program music, or music which contains an extramusical meaning. Richard Strauss’ Don Juan, composed when he was 25, was the first piece to catapult the composer into the international spotlight. Claude Debussy’s account of the power of the sea, La Mer, did not meet with audience approval in 1905. Decades after its premier it has grown to an orchestral staple for its driving intensity and wide palette of colors.
