The mission of the club is to unite in closer fellowship the creative artists in West Texas, to present stimulating programs and critiques at regular monthly meetings to sponsor painting and sketching sessions and to hold public exhibitions to further public interest in creative art.

Possible Headline: Meet Tom Motley, Texas Expert on the Fine Arts
Texas artist, teacher and writer, Thomas Motley, will be in Abilene Feb. 9th – Feb. 11th to judge the Abilene Creative Arts Club’s 90th Anniversary Member Exhibition and to speak at the Abilene Creative Arts Club meeting on Sat., Feb. 11th. The public is invited to both events.
Come meet Tom at the 90th Anniversary Member Exhibition’s Opening Reception at the Center for Contemporary Arts on Fri., Feb. 10th from 5:30--7:30 p.m. Tom’s warm Texas personality and wealth of experience makes him an engaging conversational partner.
Tom is Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History at Dallas College. His drawings and paintings have shown in many national exhibits, and locally at the DMA, the Ft Worth Modern, the Longview Museum and The Wichita Falls Museum. His exhibit, Mostly Canvas: Thomas Motley was shown at the CCA, Abilene, in conjunction with his role as Juror for CCAN, 2020. Numerous ACAC and CCA members have attended Tom's challenging composition and drawing workshops.
If you miss the Reception, perhaps you can attend his talk, “From Realism to Abstraction” on Sat., Feb. 11th, at 1:30 p.m. at Legacy Gallery, 909 N. 13th Street for the Abilene Creative Arts Club. Tom will lecture on several famous artists who transitioned from "realism" to "abstraction." Tom has lectured at the DMA, the Meadows Museum at SMU, the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum in Austin, and the Amon Carter Museum in Ft. Worth.
Tom's publications include museum catalog essays, art periodical critiques and reviews, and NEH research papers on ancient art and literature of the Greeks and Romans. Tom and artist-wife Rebecca live in Ft. Worth.
